Issue with Setting Up Open Source Monitoring Tools on Linux for Mainframe Environment

Hello everyone,

I am new to working with mainframes and I am trying to set up a monitoring solution using open source tools on a Linux-based mainframe environment. I am looking to deploy Prometheus and Grafana to monitor system performance and application metrics. I am facing some issues during the setup process and need some guidance. :upside_down_face:

I have installed Prometheus on my Linux-based mainframe but I am facing difficulties in configuring it to collect metrics from the mainframe system. What are the best practices for configuring Prometheus to monitor a mainframe environment? Are there any specific exporters / configurations I should be aware of? Once Prometheus is set up; I plan to visualize the metrics using Grafana.

Are there any recommended dashboards or plugins for Grafana that are particularly useful for mainframe metrics? Also; are there any potential compatibility issues I should anticipate when integrating Grafana with Prometheus on a mainframe system? Considering the resource constraints typically associated with mainframe environments; what are some strategies to optimize the performance of Prometheus and Grafana? How can I ensure that the monitoring solution does not significantly impact the mainframe’s performance?

What security measures should I implement to ensure that my monitoring setup is secure? Are there any specific considerations for securing Prometheus and Grafana in a mainframe environment? I have checked https://www.linode.com/docs/guides/how-to-install-prometheus-and-grafana-on-ubuntu- splunk documentation guide but still need help .

Any advice from your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help! :slightly_smiling_face:
