Hi everyone!
First off, thank you all for contributing to the overwhelming response of COBOL skills needed. The mainframe and COBOL community is strong, and the response certainly is a reflection of that.
I’m sure there is a fair amount of “what’s next?” questions rattling around, so I want to address that.
- First off, there has been significant uptick in the press and media around this initiative which is drawing awareness across the tech industry and larger corporations as a whole.
- Open Mainframe Project member companies are educating their sales and account manager who engage with clients needing COBOL skills regularly to make them aware of this initiative. Many will be reaching out to individuals in this forum category for open positions they have.
- For those needing some skills training, the COBOL training materials are now available at https://github.com/openmainframeproject/cobol-programming-course. Those materials are also open for contribution, feel free to create an issue or pull request as appropriate.
Thank you again for enthusiastic response - collectively you’ve changed the narrative of COBOL talent!
Thank you,
John Mertic
