IBM COBOL Training?

Dear Abijai ,

Welcome to the office of ECG IT. You email is not working. emails are bouncing back. If you are able to get my messages below, pls follow the instructions given below and log in in to my cobol for free session. I start the session number 2 today in about 30 minutes from now.

I take pride in talking to you as you volunteer to learn Cobol with me.

My name is Captain Uday Prasad, consulting partner and Subject Matter Experience on SMART_ SEAPORTS. I prefer to prefix my name with “Captain”, as it reminds me of my younger days, when I used to sail around the world as a Merchant Navy Officer. I left shipping and did software engineering, specializing on the IBM MAINFRAME as an application programmer, in the year 1998/99. My first job as a Cobol coder started from IBM in India followed by tier 1 companies like Tech Mahindra and others. I have worked in various countries like USA, Canada, Philippines during my last 20 years of exposure to the IT world. I am now a freelancer and run my own IT consultancy services as a solution Architect

During my entire career, I was mostly involved on medium to large mainframe projects using Cobol, CICS, JCL, DB2 on TSO/ISPF. However, I am now well versed in dealing with technologies like BIGDATA, DATA ANAYTICS and BLOCKCHAIN as well.

During the current state of affairs, when the world is sinking with the unknown fear of COVID-19 pandemic, I look forward to help those who need experienced COBOL programmer to respond to public needs. I feel comfortable that I am not alone and have someone like you to support. This training course is free for any and everyone to join-in, so that we can make a difference in the world.

I have divided this course into basic / fundamentals and advanced Cobol programming. The Course contains on several lectures. Therefore, it will be updated till the completion of COBOL programming language.

  1. Execute COBOL Program with confidence

  2. Build a strong knowledge base on COBOL from Scratch to Advanced level

  3. Redesign and code a Particular program in multiple ways

This is a very great book and can help you to become a professional programmer on CObol, if you go through it. Happy Programing …

Hello,

I was thinking to use something like slack, for Captain Uday´s course. So we can keep a track on questions, exercises, etc.
I don´t know if you like to use that kind of collaboration tools…

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thanks Captain Uday for the time and chance he is giving to us.

Thank you!
It seems unavailable for the moment. I will looking for to find a more modern version or other book.

Awesome is a good idea!

Hi everyone,

As Capitan Uday has mentionned during the sessions, we will all need mainframe access probably during next week or so. Personally, I got mainframe access around 10 days ago only by enrolling this IBM course called Master the Mainframe: http://mtm2019.mybluemix.net/

Through this course (which I have not completely covered yet) I could also get some exposure to Mainframe and got the very basics of Z/OS and JCL scripts. But most importantly, only by enrolling the course, they give you access to Mainframe. I hope this can help to overcome the issue of getting access to Mainframe.

Awesome. I’ve just read several of your comments here, including finding the online compiler – all awesome. I do have a student acct connection to an IBM mainframe (currently doing their free COBOL course via GitHub), but it’s also fantastic to have this resource. Thank you. I will continue to follow your posts best as I can, as they seem to be quite helpful. Thank you!

Many thanks
